And then the end shall come …
April 1, 2009
Okay people – not that we can really do anything about this, but I just want to make sure we’re all aware of what’s happening and how the stage is being set RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES.
While I’m not the utmost expert on the end times, I have studied quite a bit. Popular belief has been that there will be some form of one-world government and one-world currency. The idea for a one-world currency is taken from Revelation 13:16 which indicates that buying and trading goods will be regulated by the figure most recognize as the anti-christ. Obviously a one-world currency is not mandatory for this to happen, but would make regulation of the world economy much easier.
The idea that the end times will contain a one-world government is a little more fluid. Taken from Biblical prophecies in Daniel and Revelation, the title “one-world” is a little misleading. Most Biblical scholars believe the prophecies indicate a rebirth of the Roman empire – today known as the resurrected European Union (which contains all of the same countries originally under ancient Roman authority). The prophecies don’t seem to indicate that the Asian, African and (South and North) American governments will all be part of this union. I found this website that seems to summarize the idea of a one-world gov’t fairly well.
ANYHOW — here’s what’s happening THIS WEEK that I want everyone to know about:
Making International news this week, the US Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, said the idea of a one-world currency is “modest and evolutionary” in response to the worldwide economic meltdown. This happened on March 27th before the Council on Foreign Relations.
The US is setting the stage to submit itself to foreign rule. Obama’s appointee for the State Dept Legal Advisor is Harold Koh, who as the Dean of Yale Law School is an advocate for transnational law. Transnational law ultimately renders the US Constitution irrelevant when US law contradicts laws set by an “international body of law” (which has yet to be defined). In other words, we’re appointing leaders of our country who don’t believe in US sovereignty as a nation.
And (just FYI) the technology for implantation of id’s or “wearing” your identification is here. Just another opportunity for the practical fulfillment of Revelation 13:16-17.
It doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots here … yes, this could be conjecture and conspiracy theorist-ish, but seeing as the Bible’s already predicted this will happen, I’m guessing there’s plenty of truth here. The US doesn’t appear to have a lot of influence during the end times. We’re not even really mentioned in all of the prophetic timeline of events, which is odd, since we’re currently THE reigning world power. If the end times were going to happen now, it doesn’t make sense that the US wouldn’t be involved. Whereas a partnership between Germany, Iran and Russia IS predicted in Revelation as part of the end times. Those nations are currently bosom buddies. Yet, I digress … Let me try to paint a picture:
- With the current collapse of the US economy and the rise in interest for a one-world currency, it won’t be long before the dollar is defunct and the US is no longer a Superpower, superceded by the European Union on a world stage.
- The economic collapse will continue and create a desperation in the people for the need for global rule and “solutions.” There has been major rioting in London at the G20 global conference this week by people who are already feeling the desperate economic times. Keep in mind that scripture prophesied this: Rev 6:6 “And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”
- A new “international body of law” is formed, largely consisting of the European Union. The US has already legally bowed down and submitted itself to the authority of this “international body” and we will sit by and watch helplessly as the EU makes laws against Israel and sides with Islam.
- The anti-christ will rise to leadership through this “international body” and unite the world, bringing momentary peace and stability to a global climate on the verge of chaos.
So, what are we to do? … Well, I’m not really sure. I think knowledge is power at this point. Let’s not be caught unaware. Scripture continually tells believers that we need to “have patient endurance,” “use wisdom and discernment,” and “have ears to hear” when it comes to understanding what is going to happen in the end times. Practically, I think it’d be a good idea for us to consider learning how to grow our own food – since we know for a fact that believers will be unable to buy/sell/trade during the end times. That might not happen for 30 years. Or it might happen in the next 5 years. We’ll see. But personally I am screwed if it happens soon. I don’t know the first thing about gardening or hunting.
All I’m saying is, “don’t be caught with your pants down.” Pay attention people.
Unfortunately, this is not an April Fools Day joke.
Great piece…I have always been intruiged by end times stuff. I am currently taking a course called Perspectives On The World Christian Movement (www.perspectives.org) and the focus is that that the second coming can not and will not occur until the great commision is fulfilled. Matthew 24 says, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” and Rev 5:9 says that in heaven there will be people present from every tribe, tongue and people. Currently there are about 8,000 unreached people groups and Wycliff Bible Translates (http://www.wycliffe.org)is predicing that they will have translated the Bible for each group by approx 2044. All signs seem to make clear that it could occur in our lifetime, however I don’t think we are called to prepare to get through it. We are called to accomplish the task we have been given so that it can occur. Exciting times!
Dairek,
Thanks for the blog…Wen shared this w/ me b/c she knows my passion about general theological matters, including the Apocalypse…
I think this is a topic worth investigating a bit further…after Seminary I had to come to the conclusion that my ‘Dispensational’ approach to the End-Times was a bit erred…
The reality is that most ‘dispensational’ scholars believe in a more literal translation of Revelation, but most scholars hold to a very different approach to the book…
I highly recommend the work of Richard Bauckham, the leading scholar on Revelation…through his work one begins to see the amazing symbolism that is present within the book that is pointing more towards matters of the present Roman culture and matters going on in Heaven than a predictive story of our future…that is not to say Revelation doesn’t have much to say to us today…it does…it is the ultimate book of Hope where we see that a war is/has (time is beyond all of us) raging and that Jesus and his followers win out…
This is opposed to a book of fear or worry…this is where most dispensationilists take their argument…they begin to ‘literalize’ a document (Revelation) that is meant to be purely symbolic…and in turn, the net-effect is that the book of Revelation becomes ‘evidence’ that the world is ending…that is not to say that the world is not on it’s course towards the return of Christ…I believe wholeheartedly that it is on that course…but Revelation is not meant to be a book where we try to pull out the sign-of-the-times…it is a book where John is able to provide a reader a glimpse into heaven, and to assure a persecuted culture that the war that is taken place is assuredly in the hands of Christ, and that his followers can expect to inherit a Kingdom that is far beyond that of any Roman Citizen…
Anyways…these are just thoughts on the topic…it is a topic that is always worth some fun debate…at the end of the day we can agree that He is Lord…but I do believe that the Book of Revelation is the most highly mis-interpreted book in all of scripture…and so, I couldn’t help to respond…thanks for getting us thinking and I look forward to more of your posts.
In Him,
Chris
Hey D,
I am so fascinated with end world stuff…I’ve been saying that Obama is PERFECT for ushering in the whole one world thang…I know Bush wouldn’t have stood for it, so when O came into office and christians were freaking out, I just said, it’s okay, strangely enough, it’s all part of God’s plan for The End. It’s just my opinion, but I really think Obama will play a huge role supporting one world crap. I even have theories on who the False Prophet may be if this will happen soon, like in the next decade. Have you heard of Eckhart Tolle? He’s the author of the book “A New Earth”. Anyways, I got a weird feeling with that guy…maybe I’m crazy, or maybe this stuff is a lot closer to us than we think! But I’m hoping for pre-trib, so maybe we won’t need to know how to hunt and gather!
OKay, well again it was great meeting you with Em, keep writing! ~shannon~
you can take the boy out of the fear mongering bible belt, but you can’t take the fear mongering out of the boy…
Thanks Syd. Name calling is always helpful to these discussions.
